Removal of gallstones

Calculous cholecystitis is the medical name for gallstones. Until now, there was only one way to treat it: cholecystectomy, in other words - removal of the gallbladder.

The most painless variant of cholecystectomy is a new technique called "laparoscopic cholecystectomy" (LCE for short) and is a "minimally invasive" method of operative and surgical treatment of gallbladder diseases. This operation, in contrast to the usual cholecystectomy, is performed not through an incision, but by puncturing the abdominal wall, as a result of which the patient feels less discomfort during and after the operation, and, as a result, comes to his senses and recovers faster. But again, do not delude yourself, as calculi in 99% of cases are formed again and again.

But, relatively recently (about 6 years ago), it has already established itself as the most effective drug today, which is really capable of replacing surgery for stones in the gallbladder - this is Bilirum. Its action is aimed at normalizing the chemical composition of bile and painless splitting (dissolution) of stones in the gallbladder and bile ducts. The main thing is not to start the disease so that the operation does not become the only way out for you in this situation.

Overview of the gallbladder

The gallbladder is usually called the organ attached to the lower surface of the liver. This organ serves as a reservoir for the bile produced by the liver, which subsequently, from it, enters the small intestine and participates in the digestion of food. In the intestines, bile actively promotes the breakdown of fats.

Sometimes, with the formation of negative conditions in the gallbladder, certain diseases can arise, including the formation of calculi (stones). Gallstones are crystallized bile, the formation of which occurs as a result of metabolic disorders (metabolism) and motor activity of the gallbladder. Most often, gallstones do not show any symptoms about their formation and existence. However, they often cause pain and other anxiety that has nothing to do with the functioning of the gallbladder.

Useful Information About Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy

The decision to remove the gallbladder comes only if a lot of stones have already accumulated in it, and removal of stones in the gallbladder is not possible in any other way. Moreover, in most cases, patients prefer laparoscopic cholecystectomy than the usual removal of the gallbladder through an incision.

This is due to the fact that during the operation of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LCE) to remove the gallbladder, the surgeon makes about 4 punctures of the patient's abdominal wall, which in no way harm muscle tissue and do not cause excruciating pain. And when performing a conventional cholecystectomy, on the contrary, an incision is made about 15-20 cm long, which gives patients much more unpleasant sensations and naturally injures muscle fibers, and accordingly, after such an operation, the patient needs a longer recovery period than after LCE operation.

It should be noted that during the LCE, the surgeon pierces the abdominal wall with a thin tube, which has a specific name: "trocar". By means of a trocar, which is inserted into the navel, the doctor places a laparoscope into the abdominal cavity, connected to a small camera and having its own light source. In turn, thanks to a mini-video camera, the image obtained from the endoscope is transmitted to the monitor, allowing the surgeon to observe the location of organs from inside the body.

Through the other three punctures, the surgeon passes the instruments necessary for the operation, such as: a laser beam, low voltage electric current, which are used in the process of separating the gallbladder from the liver wall, ensuring the sealing of the resulting wound surface and stopping bleeding.

The result of a successful operation is the gallbladder removed from the abdominal cavity through the trocar.

As a rule, the operation takes place under general anesthesia, while taking no more than an hour. After its completion, the patient, in order to ensure his safety, needs to spend about another day (24 hours) in the hospital, so that the doctors are finally convinced of the successful outcome of LCE. However, depending on the individual characteristics of a person, the length of stay in a hospital may vary.

After the operation, the patient begins a recovery period, which lasts differently for each person, therefore the first recovery week for any patient requires careful observation of the surgeon. As soon as a person returns to a comfortable state for himself, fully recovers after the operation, he can immediately return to his daily, normal life.

According to statistics, every tenth resident of the Russian Federation suffers from gallbladder diseases, while removal of stones in the gallbladder and the gallbladder itself is already one of the standard operations, of which more than five hundred thousand are carried out throughout Russia once a year.

The greatest popularity of LCE, in comparison with the usual cholecystectomy, is explained by the clear advantages of this technique over an intervention that is open and more painful for the patient, which, in addition, leaves behind a large scar on the skin.
